Press Release - Summer starts tomorrow.

Better Football is incredibly excited to announce the start of its first edition of the men's Wellington Summer Football League, with all games at Boyd Wilson to be streamed live.

Ten teams will play against each other over the Spring season in an initial round robin to decide the league winner. Immediately following the season’s completion a knockout cup tournament will be played in which all teams will compete regardless of their final standing on the ladder.

“I’m really pleased to see a bunch of new 11 aside teams joining the competition in our maiden season in this refined format,” said Better Football co-founder Mike Anderson.

“It’s going to be great to see tons of people turn out each weekend, enjoying their football and enjoying their game.

“It will be very interesting to see the club v club dynamic between some of the teams, but it’s also worth remembering that there are some quality social teams that will put the club teams to the test.”

All Boyd Wilson games will be streamed on YouTube, with the matches themselves taking place predominantly at Boyd Wilson park in Kelburn on Sundays between 11am and 3:30pm. Some games may occur away from Boyd Wilson - please check your fixtures in advance.

Several of the teams have connections to clubs already operating in Wellington; The Mandalorians are from Brooklyn Northern United, Island Bay United have sent out the Island Bay Vauxhalls, while Victoria University Of Wellington’s Unicycles completes the hat trick of teams associated with existing clubs. To have teams from around Wellington joining is massive. A further seven teams unconnected to any pre-existing club will also be joining, and a full list of the sides competing is below:

  • The Mandalorians (Brooklyn Northern United)

  • CMP FC

  • Island Bay United Vauxhalls

  • Inter Galactic FC

  • Man Titty

  • The Casuals 2020

  • Tim’s Boys

  • VUWAFC UniCycles

  • Wellington Chin United (WCU)

The Better Football Wellington Summer Football League will kick off on Sunday the 4th of October.

Better Football would like to thank its sponsors, Hell’s Pizza, Kelme NZ, Embroid Me WLG, The Old Bailey and Rail Clothing.
