The game:

In what started as a tightly fought contest with no quarter given, Wellington Chin United slowly gained the upper hand over Tim’s Boys on Sunday morning, eventually prevailing with a 5-1 victory.

Early goals from Van Thin and Lai saw WCU nab a 2-0 lead going into the break, but particularly thanks to the addition of Daniel Gibbs in goal for the Tims, the contest would even out again after the resumption. Still as the second half wore on things began to improve for the Chins and they eventually added another three to their tally despite Gibbs’ herorics. Cam Williams did get the Tim’s on the scoresheet but it was all for naught.

The goals:

Van Thin (WCU, 25th minute) WCU and Tim’s Boys were locked in a midfield battle to start off, but in what would be indicative of things to come, WCU slowly played their way through. Thin’s goal was the result of that, scoring after a well executed play from the Chin midfield.

Chanza (WCU, 29th minute) In the area WCU attacker Lai’s shot was saved by then Tim’s goalie Hunter Cheese, but all his save did was to ensure there was nothing between Chanza and doubling the advantage.

Kapte (WCU, 57th minute) A piece of WCU play from the left hand side drew new Tim keeper Daniel Gibbs out, and said movement saw Kapte slam the ball with great force into the top of the net.

Cam Williams (Tim’s Boys, 62nd minute) Once a teammate had chested the ball down, Cam Williams was set free and slotted it through to bring one back for the boys.

Henry (WCU, 77th minute) The left hand side provided once more for WCU, with Henry cutting inside to slide it in.

Henry (WCU, 80th minute) An intra-area scramble for the ball ensued following a corner, and despite Gibbs dealing with the first few strikes, the winger’s thump into the top of the next saw WCU garner their fifth.

The pivotal moment: Just after scoring their goal, Tim’s attacker Kerian Tripton received a cross from the right, and had a go from some way out. It almost, almost, went in. WCU keeper Lianku got a touch to it, and just managed to push it onto the crossbar from where it proceeded to bounce off. It could have created some momentum for Tim’s Boys if it had gone in.

The stars: WCU - Henry. Not for the first time this season, Henry showcased his skill and finesse from the left hand side, and was rewarded for his efforts with another brace.

Tim’s Boys - Daniel Gibbs. Stepping into the goalie role at half time, Gibbs was a beast between the sticks. Shot after shot after shot arrived from the WCU offence, yet Gibbs was able to keep the vast majority of their quality out.

The comment:
Chanza, WCU attacker:
We stuck to the game plan by playing up the wings and using our pace. We know that we are not as big as them but we also understand that we are not only faster but also better technical players. It was a good game overall, and Tim’s Boys had some good players, but we managed to nullify their threats pretty well.

The bad boys:

Yellow cards - N/A

The meaning:

The Chins’ perfect record continues with this victory making it three wins in three, placing them into the mixer of potential champions. Tim’s Boys by contrast, were one of the pre-season favourites yet instead endured another bump on their road following their 13-1 thrashing last week. While this performance was no doubt an improvement, it’s still a performance which keeps them rooted to ninth on the ladder.

The future:

On Sunday the 8th at Boyd Wilson Tim’s Boys will face off against The Casuals 2020 in what will be a cellar dweller clash, with kickoff at 10am. WCU meanwhile take their game to Alex Moore for their 11.40 fixture against Inter Galactic, also on Sunday the 8th.
