Match Report: Tim's Boys 1-0 SkuxxFC
Amidst sporadic spots of rain in gloomy conditions, Tim’s Boys ground out a 1-0 win against SkuxxFC despite late rushes from both sides.
The first half was a cagey affair, with Tsar Mitchener’s 26th-minute goal being the half’s highlight. Things opened up more in the second as Skuxx started to have proper chances, but superb keeping in both areas kept the score at 1-0.
The goal:
Tsar Mitchener (Tim’s Boys, 26th minute) Mitchener proved himself to be Tim’s ace in the hole, as his darts between lines and plays wreaked havoc on the Skuxx backline. So when a well thought out through ball found Mitchener in the box with space, his rounding of the keeper and scoring was a formality.
The stars:
Tim’s Boys: Tsar Mitchener. Being both goal scorer and game-winner is already invaluable, but Mitchener truly was causing chaos all throughout the ninety. His speed, agility, and on-ball ability made him a joy to watch.
SkuxxFC: Nick Emms. Skuxx certainly dealt with the ball being down their end more than their Tim counterparts and one reason why the scoreline wasn’t worse for them was Emms. The Skuxx keeper made several key saves and was able to quickly and readily go to ground when it mattered.
The Bad Boys: N/A
The comments:
Corrin Imlatch, Tim midfielder: “The win feels great. Skuxx are close to the top of the table whereas we were the underdogs coming off a loss. The boys put it all out there on the field today and got the result we wanted.
“We didn’t go to aggression immediately which is unusual for us as it’s our strong suit but it came out at the end so it worked out.”
Dylan Pringle, Skuxx midfielder: “The first half was lacklustre; they swarmed us and got the goal. The second half started off better and we just kept at it but they played well and it wasn’t to be - the Skuxx was not deluxe.
The meaning:
The loss sees reigning champs Man Titty open up a six-point gap on second place Sukxx, but it’s the opposite story for Tim’s Boys - they move up to third, two points behind the Skuxx.
The rest:
Man Titty 4-1 Intergalactic
WCU 2-2 Unicycles
Red Barons 1-1 Summer Rangers
The future:
Labour weekend sees the teams (and Better Football employees) take time off, but both are back come Halloween. Tims Boys stick with Boyd Wilson for their 10 am clash with Intergalactic, while Skuxx has an 11 am matchup vs Red Barons at Alex Moore.
